Welcome! That's how I hope you will feel while visiting the Savory Coast web site and how I want you to feel at any event that we create together.
My name is Leslie Bates. I started cooking for my brothers and myself at a very early age and helped put myself through college as a line cook in the school cafeteria. I discovered that not only was I good at preparing meals for hundreds of hungry people I actually liked the challenge.
I've been fortunate to have traveled widely and to have lived for extensive periods of time abroad where I have had the opportunity to sample many of the world's diverse cuisines. In the process I have further developed my love of all types of food and have come to appreciate a very simple approach to it's preparation as well as the importance of presentation.
For years I owned and operated a small restaurant in Gualala and was fortunate enough to attract a very loyal following of customers who enjoyed the food. (It was great fun and we even got written up in the New York Times.) We catered hundreds of events as well as kept the restaurant open 364 days a year. It was a great life and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but family requirements demanded that I free up some time, so I sold the restaurant and established Savory Coast Fine Catering in 2004.
I love to see people enjoy themselves and we all know that people enjoy eating good food - so catering is a natural for me. My approach to catering your event will be to find the very freshest ingredients that I possibly can and to treat them with the respect that they deserve. I will be delighted to work within your budget to make your event a success without breaking the bank or skimping on the quality of the food.
